| BIO | On January 26, 1997, after three years of working for a corporate salon, Kelly decided to venture out on her own by opening Appearances by Kelly R., a small one-chair salon built onto her home on Hill Street in York. Kelly spent three years working to build a loyal clientele, then realized that she had outgrown her space. Taking the next leap of faith, she decided to expand her business in a major way. On April 17, 2001 she opened a brand new facility, Appearances Salon & Spa at 4740 East Prospect Road, just east of York. Kelly had the new two story salon & spa custom built specifically for the comfort and enjoyment of the clientele as well as for the staff.
In her spare time Kelly is an avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast and enjoys spending her days off riding her 2006 Softail Deluxe, attending motorcycle rallies and participating in motorcycle charity events. Kelly feels blessed with a loving family, good friends, great staff and a satisfying life. She believes it’s important to share those blessings with people who may not feel as lucky and realizes the importance of giving back to the community. She actively raises funds for charity organizations such as the Muscular Dystrophy Association and March of Dimes. She annually hosts a “Cheap 4 Charity” event at the salon which offers salon & spa services at huge discounts, includes a raffle and a soup & bake sale. 100% of the funds raised are donated to a local charity. The March of Dimes received a check for $1311 as a result of the Oct 8, 2005 event.
Kelly believes in the salon’s mission statement to provide unbeatable client service with outstanding, professional results. She looks forward to welcoming new clients to Appearances Salon & Spa.
